The St. Albert & District Garden Club has been established for over 30 years and has a current membership of over 60 families who share a common interest in gardening.
We encourage civic and residential awareness, appreciation and use of plants and trees in beautifying our community, and we support the preservation of the natural environment in St. Albert and District and especially in the River Valley.
Most important we give members a chance to meet other gardeners, both inexperienced and experienced, to share their triumphs, disappointments and their problems in a friendly social atmosphere.
Monthly Meetings - are held from August to June, and different topics are scheduled for each meeting. Often we have guest speakers who are experts on particular gardening or horticultural topics. We aim for a blend of background knowledge and practical tips. In particular we concentrate on information about gardening in and around St. Albert and dealing with our harsh Canadian climate.
Meetings of the Garden Club are currently held at 7:00 p.m. on the second (or third) Tuesday of each month in Sir George Simpson Junior High School, 50 Grosvenor Boulevard, St. Albert.
In February - the Club holds its Annual General Meeting at which elections are held for members to serve on the Executive Committee which manages the Club and arranges all club activities.
Members are encouraged to volunteer their time and talents to serve on the Executive Committee.
Plant Sales and Auctions - are held twice a year, in Spring and in Fall,at which members bring in their plants for sale, by auction, to other members and to the public. Local Nurseries and Garden Centres also donate items for these meetings.
Proceeds from the sales finance Club Activities such as outings and the Annual Show.
Toursof Member's Gardens - and of local commercial Gardens and Nurseries, are arranged during the summer months.
A Newsletter - is sent out every month to all current members. More details of the Activities planned for future monthly meetings are contained in the Newsletters and are also published in the "Gazette" and Community Calendar.
Discounts - from many local Horticultural Nurseries and Suppliers are arranged for members .
The Annual Flower & Produce ‘Summer Splendour Show' - one of the highlights of each year, is organized and managed by our members to give everyone an opportunity to submit their exhibits for the displays of Flowers, Fruit, Vegetables, Flower Arranging, Culinary Skills and Photography.
The Show is usually held towards the end of August in St. Albert Place and Admission to View the Show, and Registration and Submission of Exhibits, is FREE to everyone (whether club members or not)
All exhibits are professionally Judged, and Trophies are awarded as well as Prize money for winning exhibits.
The Club Library - has over 120 books and some CDs and DVDs that are available for members to borrow at our monthly meetings. The list of Books can also be browsed on this website.
