Judging & Prizes Print

The Exhibits in each Class will be judged by a qualified Judge who specializes in Heritage plants and has grown, or is familiar with, many of the named varieties.

A Ribbon and small monetary Prize will be awarded to the three winners of each Class,
based on the criteria of best matching the characteristics of the chosen variety and of quality of exhibit.

It would be impossible to include ALL potentially available Types and Varieties of plants, and it would be impractical to grow or judge an unlimited collection of each different Variety in each Class.   Therefore we have chosen certain specific named varieties for each Class based on their availability, suitability for growing and distinctive features that can be compared to their known descriptions and illustrations.

Exhibitors can submit entries in any of the Classes of produce grown from other Heritage seeds that are reliably claimed to have been available over 150 years ago, (preferably with their ‘Variety’ named on the exhibit tag).

For the purpose of better illustrating examples of the Types and Varieties in each of the Classes
a color picture and brief description of each variety has been created, thanks to the permission from Heritage Harvest Seeds (Manitoba) to make copies from their catalogue of Heritage Seeds.
